Derelict Home Series #02 - Part I
I’m back with another Derelict Home, slightly later then planned as February turned out to be busier than expected AND I finally finished my interior design Diploma 🥂
At the beginning of the month I put up two images that I found on Unsplash, one was a room in a period property and the other was a warehouse, and thankfully you all went with the warehouse - thank you for voting over on Instagram stories! I was secretly hoping this would be the chosen room as I think it lends itself to a restaurant/bar area and since I haven’t really done any renders in my portfolio of this type of space, this would be a great opportunity.
So here is the next Derelict Home (but not a home 🤷♀️) to transform:
So I have started to do the basic perspective match and have come up with a floor plan of where I would like the bar and seats.
For the theme of the space, I decided to try out Midjourney, which is a text to image AI software. Once you get the hang of the text prompts to give it, it’s amazing what it generates and there were one or two images that reminded me of surrealism, they were theatrical and eccentric which I loved! It also reminded me that I actually do have a background in Theatre Design (I studied at Wimbledon College of Art, Design for Performance) and that I don’t have a client so I can go all out! If you don’t use AI text to image as a tool as a starting point for inspiration you should! It really gets the brain matter whirling! Below are some of the images Midjourney generated ~
From the AI generated images, I have started to look at Salvador Dali and Fashion Designer Elsa Schiaparelli, for more Surrealism and Eccentric inspiration. I’m still pulling together the design but look out for the next instalment where I will go deeper into the inspiration and how I am incorporating it successfully (hopefully!).
